The location of the Iron Age gate discovered in area N1 in past seasons forced us to assume that there was a constructed entrance to the site from the north, near the northwestern corner of the mound.
In the last 2023 season of excavations in the Tel, a structure was uncovered in area G, and we suggest that it is the outer gate to the Iron Age city. It was built on the lower step below area N, led to by a built ramp (perhaps with steps?) and a paved road.
In light of these discoveries, there is no doubt that the continuation of the excavation in area G in the next 2024 excavation season will be fascinating!
